 This year’s CPGIS Excellence in Education Award went to Professors Deren Li and Hui Lin, to recognize their outstanding contribution to the GIS education in China and in the world!

 

The awards were issued at the Welcome Banquet of the 2013 International Geoinformatics Conference at Kaifeng.

 

Academician Deren Li 

Deren Li is a dual member of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and also a member of the Euro-Asia International Academy of Sciences. He is a Professor of Wuhan University, where he has supervised 170 PhD students as well as 18 postdoctoral scholars, and published over 700 papers and 18 books. He is clearly a world-known leader in GIScience and Remote Sensing research and education in the world.

He is the vice-President of the Chinese Society of Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, Vice-president of Hubei Association for Science and Technology (HAST), Chair of the Academic Committee of Wuhan University and the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing (LIESMARS)

He is a lifetime member of CPGIS and has been very supportive of CPGIS. He attended the first CPGIS Geoinformatics Conference in 1992, and he has given many keynote speeches at our Geoinformatics conferences.




Professor Hui Lin

Hui Lin is a professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has been teaching there for 20 years. He has mentored 60 Ph.D. students and post-Doctoral students. He is the Director of Institute of Space and Earth Information Science of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Director of Hong Kong Base of National Remote Sensing Center of China. He is a world leader in satellite remote sensing, virtual geographic environments, and urban and historic GIS. He has published over 180 papers in academic journals and co-authored more than 10 research books. He was elected as an academician of International Eurasia Academy of Sciences in 1995 and a member of the Expert Committee of China Lunar Exploring Program in 2008. He received the Outstanding Contribution Award from Asian Association of Remote Sensing in 2009.

He is the founding president of CPGIS and the spiritual leader of CPGIS. He is the chief editor of CPGIS’ flagship journal (Annals of GIS) and CPGIS Book Series with China Higher Education Press.
