Dear CPGIS members
It was with great pleasure to report that the 2010 CPGIS "GO-HOME" project was successfully held on June 13-17 and June 21-24, 2010 at Guangzhou University and Henan University respectively.
With Guangzhou being the center of the well-developed Pearl River Delta Metropolitan area, and Kaifeng being part of the emerging Zhengzhou-Kaifeng-Ruoyang Metropolitan area, the theme of this year's "Go Home" project was the Application of Geospatial Technology in Urban Development. During the visit to the two cities, seven overseas speakers selected by CPGIS "GO-HOME" committee, Drs. Aijun Chen, Daoqin Tong, Le Wang, Yong Lao, Ronald Briggs, Shixiong Hu, and Fang Qiu delivered multiple advanced GIS and Remote Sensing seminars in the areas of their specialty to more than 200 GIS students and professionals. Five domestic GIS scholars from Beijing University, Sun Yat-sen University, Southern China Normal University, and other university also presented their research work in Guangzhou. The seven speakers also participated in the CPGIS annual conference - Geoinformatics 2010 - in Beijing on June 18-20.
Through the presentation and follow-up discussion, we achieved the goal of strengthening the communication between the overseas CPGIS scholars and GIS professionals and students in China through exchanging the latest developments of their respective areas. The project was co-sponsored by Guangzhou University and Henan University. We would like to use this opportunity to express our appreciation to Professors Jianfei Chen and Yinbiao Chen of Guangzhou University and Professors Yaochen Qin and Minzhou Qin of Henan University for their generous support to the project. Thanks also go to the seven CPGIS scholars who contributed to the success of the project. Enclosed please find two pictures taken at the events.
Cheers!
Fang Qiu
