The CPGIS Award Committee is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the following categories of awards in 2016: (1) the CPGIS Service Excellence Award; (2) the CPGIS Distinguished Scholar Award; (3) the Education Excellence Award; and (4) the CPGIS Life-Time Achievement Award

(1)    The CPGIS Service Excellence Award: This award is given to an individual or a group of individuals for making significant service contributions to CPGIS in the past year. To be qualified for nomination, an individual or a group of individuals should be members of CPGIS and should have made significant service contributions to CPGIS.We will have two categories of Service Award: Individual Award and Group Award. Please be specific to which category a nomination is for. The current president, vice-president, and members on the award committee are not eligible to receive the award as they are involved in the decision process of the award.

(2)    The CPGIS Distinguished Scholar Award: This award seeks to recognize CPGIS members for outstanding research contributions to geographic information science and/or systems and related fields, including remote sensing. Nominees for this award should be a member of CPGIS and should have made significant contributions to GIS research. The current president, vice-president, and members on the award committee are not eligible to receive the award as they are involved in the decision process of the award.

(3)    The CPGIS Education Excellence Award: This award is to honor two members annually for their outstanding contributions to GIScience & Technology education. The award selection will be based on the criteria such as effective teaching of GIS courses, enhancing public awareness of GIS, mentoring of students who enter careers in GIS related professions, authorship of significant GIS textbooks, leadership in GIS curriculum development. All CPGIS members are eligible for this award. The current president, vice-president, and members on the award committee are not eligible to receive the award as they are involved in the decision process of the award.

(4)    The CPGIS Life-Time Achievement Award: This award is intended to honor the outstanding accomplishments of senior professionals who have contributed substantially to the advancements of the fields of GIS or GIScience. All researchers worldwide, except for the current president, vice-president, and members on the award committee, are eligible for the award.

To nominate an award, please submit the following to Chuanrong Zhang (chuanrong.zhang@uconn.edu), Chair, CPGIS Award Committee, by May. 15, 2016:

 

1.      A nominating cover letter (e-mail is acceptable), containing basic contact and affiliation information for the nominee, a brief summary of the nominee's qualification and justifying the specific qualification and contributions of the nominee (not to exceed 3 page).

2.      A copy of the nominee’s CV, preferably in PDF format.

 

Nominations will be first evaluated by the CPGIS Awards Committee, then candidates will be recommended to CPGIS BOD for final approval.

The awards will be presented during the 24th International Conference on Geoinformatics, Galway, Ireland, August 14 – 20, 2016
