Dear CPGIS members and friends,

 

 

We had a great get-together meeting at AAG! A lot of friends attended the meeting, among which about 120 joined the dinner party.  We need to thank:

·         Chuanrong Zhang, Chair of the AAG Get-Together Committee, for organizing the meeting & dinner party,

·         Wimmy Lin, a volunteer from Esri, for helping us choose the dishes and lead us to the restaurant,

·         All committee chairs, for providing and/or presenting their committee business report slides,

·         And, to Bing Xu & Beijing Normal University for sponsoring the dinner party!

Here is a lengthy but very informative summary of the meeting. Please read on.

 

1.       Conference Preparation (Henan University: Yaochen Qin)

·         350 papers and abstracts

·         Invited 4 keynote speakersXU Guanhua, Goodchild Michael, Li Deren, Konecny Milan

·         Conference Registration: early registration ends on 5/10

·         CPGIS Night: Qing-Ming-Shang-He-Yuan theme park (清明上河园主题公园)

·         Fields trips:

o   Central China History Trip: 中原文化之旅

§  Shaolin Temple, Longmen Grotto, Xiaolangdi Dam etc.

§  少林寺龙门石窟黄河小浪底大坝

o   The Grand Canyon of Tihang Mountain太行山大峡谷风光之旅

§  Yuntai Mountain, Taihang Mountain, Red Flag Canal etc.

2.       From the Annals of GIS Journal Committee (Hui Lin):

·         Annals of GIS has been indexed by a popular citation system Scopus, a step closer to our target SCI index system;

·         Papers in our journal has been cited by Science paper on medicine;

·         Increasing royalty has been received by CPGIS (51% increase compared with the previous year)

Call for continual support from members:

·         Promote our journal for more subscription;

·         Submit quality papers to our journal;

·         Cite more papers from our journal papers.

3.       From the Annual Conference Committee (Pinde Fu)

-          Formed International Steering Committee, Program Committee, Conference Proceeding

-          Plan to invite additional keynote speakers (young and well established)

 

4.       From the Conference Proceeding Publication Committee (Xinyue Ye, Shixiong Hu)

-          Applied IEEE GRSS (Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society) as the technical sponsorship and publish the conference papers as IEEE proceedings. Accepted and gone through the paperwork

-          Abstracts and Papers being reviewed by the program committee. Announcing results soon.

5.       From the Student Paper Competition Committee (Jie Tian)

-          Called for participation in the student paper competition

-          Forming a new judge team

Call for actions:

-          The awards will include one First-Place Award ($600), one Second-Place Award ($300), and two Third-Place Awards ($150 each). Besides the monetary awards, awardees will receive certificate plaques.

-          If you are a student, have submitted a paper for the Geoinformatics 2013 conference, and you are the first author. If you would like to join the competition, send Jie an email (jietian@clarku.edu)

-          If you would like to be a judge of the competition, please send Jie (jietian@clarku.edu) an email as well. (Certain requirements may apply)

6.        From the Go Home Committee (Shixiong Hu)

       Location: Zhuhai (珠海) & Nanchang (南昌), China

       Date: June 13-19, 2013 (before Kaifeng conference)

       ThemeApplication of Geospatial Technology in Natural Environment and Urban Development

       Format: One presentation (40-50 minutes) and round table discussion

       Schedule:

       June 13-16 Advanced seminars at Zhuhai Campus, Beijing Normal University (Zhuhai, Hongshun Chen & Dr. Wei Huang)

       June 16-18 Advanced seminars at Jiangxi Normal University (Nanchang, Dr. Chaoyang Fang)

       June 19 Fly to Kaifeng and attend the Geoinformatics 2013 Conference

       Covered expenses: Lodging, meal, round trip of  domestic airfare, city tours and Tour to the Inner Mongolia Grassland

7.       From the Conference Site Selection Committee (Luo Wei)

-          Called for Geoinformatics 2014 hosting proposals

-          Received inquiries from a few potential candidates

-          Need full proposals (If you need a proposal sample, please contact wluo@niu.edu)

8.       From the CPGIS Book Series Editorial Board (Secretary: Xinyue Ye)

-          Call for book proposals. Submit to xinyue.ye@gmail.com

-          If selected, HEP will waive the publication fee, which typically starts at 30,000 Yuan.

-          Plan to publish at least 4 books a year

 

9.       From the Geoscience Training Committee (Chaowei Yang)

-          Executive Training Program for Advanced GeoInformation Management (2012): Big success

-          2013 Training Program:

o   Organized by NASG and GMU

o   22 Directors from 10 provinces

o   July, 5-19, 2013

o   Executives from U.S. will give talks for the two week training GMU, USGS, ESRI, and other two organizations will host

10.   From the Standards and Standardization Committee (Yuqi Bai)

-          Held a seminar by Liping Di (Chair of INCITS/L1) in March

-          Another seminar by George Percivall (OGC Chief Engineer) in June

-          Two more seminars planned for September and December

-          Slides or main contents will be shared with CPGIS email list

11.   From the Service Award Committee (Aijun Chen)

-          For identifying awardees of CPGIS annual Excellent  Service Award for Individual and Group, The Committee has below schedule. Please be ready to nominate.

-           April 14th: Call for Nominations

-           May 12th: Last Call for Nominations

-           May 14th: Send Service Awardee Candidates list to BO

12.   From the Education Committee (Pinde Fu)

-          Book donation: Free books at Esri AAG booth; more free books later this year

-          Teaching slides and videos: In an email of mine last year. Will update

-          Excellence in Education Award

o   April 22th: Call for Nominations

o   June 20th: Award ceremony at Geoinformatics welcome dinner

-          Excellence in Research Award
