CPGIS Missions
The International Association of Chinese Professionals in Geographic Information Science (CPGIS) is a non-profit organization that is committed to promoting the development of research, education and entrepreneurship in geographic information science and technology.
CPGIS currently has over 3,000 members from 59 countries and regions all over the world, and organizes an annual international conference on GeoInformatics in various countries and regions. CPGIS edits a quarterly and peer-reviewed academic journal, Annals of GIS, published by Taylor & Francis, maintains a website www.cpgis.org and a list server CPGIS-L@listserv.acsu.buffalo.edu, and publishes a quarterly newsletter. CPGIS also organizes workshops on GIS-related technologies, initiates various projects to promote GIS technologies in public and private sectors, particularly in China, and encourages young scholars to be involved in various activities. Student members are eligible for receiving the CPGIS Best Paper Awards and CPGIS Conference Travel Awards.
The missions of CPGIS is as following:
(a) To promote the professional development of its members by fostering cooperation among its members and by maintaining a central point of reference and deliberation.
(b) To promote the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and scientific development in GIS and related sciences and technologies between Chinese GIS professionals abroad and those in China.
(c) To provide an efficient channel between its members and other GIS professionals, through which mutual understanding and cooperation can be enhanced.
(d) To promote education of geographic information sciences at all levels around the world.
