Call for Proposals to Host Geoinformatics 2015

Since its inception in 1992, CPGIS has annually sponsored Geoinformatics conference, which has since grown to be a major international event among professionals of Geographic Information Sciences (broadly defined). Through careful site selection and program planning, the conference has been able to attract not only the most prominent GISciences experts and scholars inside and outside of China, but also those scholars and professionals who apply GISciences technologies to China and Asia studies. In addition to presenting latest GISciences research and technologies, this annual event also provides a forum that encourages professional interaction among all the participants and a social venue that engenders new ties and potential collaborations.

The conference is normally held between late spring and summer months, and has a tradition of rotating between Asia and North America. However, we encourage proposal submissions from all continents. The previous conference Geoinformatics-2013 was held in Kaifeng, China (June 20-22, 2013). This year's Geoinformatics-2014 will be held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan (June 24-27, 2014).

In general, the conference organizer needs to take the financial responsibility. Previous Geoinformatics conferences have either been self-sufficient or run some surplus through conference registrations and various sponsorships. In addition to conference site rentals, the conference organizer is responsible for securing keynote speaker(s) and hosting a dinner reception and a CPGIS Night celebration, which could be combined into one event. The conference organizer is also expected to follow the conference tradition to publish a conference proceeding and organize a field trip (for those who are interested to participate and willing to pay for the cost). .

The proposal should be no more than 8 pages and include:
  • proposed conference site and a brief description of the site
  • a theme with two or three intended sessions that reflect the theme
  • an organization structure with a minimum of program and local arrangement committee (there should be at least one representative from CPGIS)
  • possible conference dates with at least two time slots
  • accommodations and price range, any incentives in group discount travel/lodging
  • a detailed budget and methods of balancing the budget (e.g., proposed registration fee, the minimum $2000 contribution to CPGIS, cash awards to student paper competition winners, discount to CPGIS members, sponsors, etc.)
  • other potential benefits of holding the conference at the proposed location and on the proposed dates (e.g., petty packing an additional conference or being petty- packed with a major conference, exhibits, social events)
  • a statement acknowledging that Geoinformatics conference is mainly sponsored by CPGIS

The site-selection committee will review the proposals and will make recommendation to CPGIS Board of Directors (BOD). The BOD will make a final decision on the site selection. An official agreement will be signed between CPGIS and the selected local organizer. A complete guideline about the conference and the responsibilities of CPGIS and local organizer can be found at http://www.cpgis.org/AboutCPGIS/GuidelinesContent.aspx?ID=2.

We encourage digital submissions and the deadline for submitting a complete proposal is April 15, 2014. Please submit your proposal by email to:
