Dear all CPGISers,

The 19th International Conference on Geoinformatics (Geoinformatics 2011) was successfully held on June 24-26 at East China Normal University, Shanghai, China.

Following last year's success in Beijing, this year's conference was held in Shanghai, the largest city in China and a symbol of this country's rapid socioeconomic development in the past 30 years. In a city like Shanghai, "business" is an inevitable topic; on the other hand, the local organizer of
this year's conference is The East China Normal University, a research and teaching university with a high reputation. As a result, the theme of this year's conference is "GIS in Education and Business". It turned out that the synthesis of these two seemingly parallel topics is meaningful and inspiring, which is demonstrated by the five keynote speeches from Drs. Michael Goodchild, Guanhua Xu, Hui Lin, Simon Thompson, and Vincent Tao, the 900 abstracts, and the 550 full papers we received. The conference had two plenary sessions, one student paper competition session, 64 oral presentation sessions, and eight poster sessions to accommodate those submissions.

We would like to thank members of the three committees of the Conference, including the International Steering Committee, the Program Committee, and the Organization Committee, for their hard work in providing academic advisory, reviewing abstracts and full papers, and creating and organizing the conference programs and other events.

Conference Co-Chairs
Xun Shi (Dartmouth College) and Yehua Dennis Wei (University of Utah)
