As part of GeoInformatics 2011, which is held in Shanghai, China, CPGIS Best Student Paper Competition is a long-standing tradition of CPGIS for promoting development of young scholars in geographic information science.
In this year’s competition, we have totally received 17 submitted papers, of which, the following eight papers (without a particular order) were selected based on the first round peer review process. These papers were invited for presentation during the conference on June 24th, 2011.

After the onsite competition at the conference, the following three papers were selected as the final winners of the Best Student Paper Competition.

1st -place award:
Zoning Farmland Protection Areas by integrating GIS, Land Allocation Model and Urban Growth Model
Yimin Chen, Xia Li, Zhangzhi Tan, Shujie Wang, Yilun Liu, Chunhua Lao, and Xiaoping Liu
 
2nd-place award:

3rd-place award:

These three best papers have been invited to go through the normal peer-review process, and be considered for publication on the official CPGIS journal of “Annuals of GIS”.
The completion was carried out by chair: Shaowen Wang, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, two co-chairs: Bo Huang, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Yan Liu, from the University of Queensland, and the following 11 judges.
