Describe:  Eastern Michigan University (Ypsilanti, MI) Department of Geography and Geology Urban and Regional Planning Program Assistant Professor The Department of Geography and Geology invites applications for a tenure-track Urban and Regional Planning position at the Assistant Professor rank. This is a full-time, eight-month appointment in the Urban and Regional Planning Program to begin September, 2011. Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. (or be ABD) in Planning or a related field, although those with a professional master’s degree, at least 18 hours of additional course work, and significant planning experience will be considered. Applicants should demonstrate experience or potential in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Research, publications, grants, curriculum development, and advising are also important considerations to address in the application materials, as is community engagement/service. Founded in 1975, EMU’s Urban and Regional Planning Program includes an accredited undergraduate program with approximately fifty majors. The graduate program averages twenty-five actively enrolled students. Other programs in the department include Geography, GIS, Historic Preservation, and Earth System Science. New interdisciplinary program initiatives are currently underway in the areas of sustainability and in environmental studies/environmental science. The program is also interested in candidates who might contribute to other planning specializations such as housing and community development, transportation and land use, public policy, geo-tourism and economic development, or professional practice. The successful applicant will be expected to work with students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as successfully integrate with other programs in the department. EMU's campus is located in Ypsilanti, near Ann Arbor and 35 miles from Detroit. The area offers excellent quality of life and amenities.
