Assistant Professor - Global Health and the Environment at University of Miami

 

The Department of Geography and Sustainable Development in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami seeks applicants for one tenure-track faculty appointment in the field of Health and Environment. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin on August 15, 2026.

The ideal candidate will be able to develop a vibrant research and teaching agenda that addresses the spatial dimensions of health, with an emphasis on communicable and non-communicable diseases in relation to urban built environments. We welcome applicants from diverse disciplinary backgrounds who employ innovative quantitative or mixed methods approaches and are committed to interdisciplinary collaboration. Areas of interest include but are not limited to: Urban epidemiology and spatial health disparities; health impacts of urban planning and design; environmental determinants of chronic disease; environmental exposures and resilience to heat, flooding, and pollution in cities; geography of emerging diseases; health co-benefits from urban sustainability transitions; GIS, spatial modeling, and data-driven surveillance systems for disease transmission. The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities in the College’s Global Health Studies Program.
